Under Abe's Hat

Abe's Hat

Abraham Lincoln is not only credited with founding the Republican Party, but one of our nation's greatest supporters of free speech.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Josh Morris to Speak

by Ken Ambrose - Chairman, Republican Party Upshur County

This should prove to be one of the more entertaining speakers of 2010. Chief Justice Josh Morriss will be dressed in period attire as George Washington to deliver a monologue, "A Standing Miracle". There is no charge for admission and if I had children living with me of an age that understood civics in the most elementary way, I would certainly bring them to this event.

Second Saturday Suppers

by Staff Writer

RPUC Second Saturday Spaghetti Suppers in the Senior Citizens dinning facility continues to be a complete success. The next supper is scheduled for January 8th, 2011.  The evening meal is $6.00 which includes spaghetti with a meatless heart-healthy marinara, but don't let that discourage you from adding some Black Angus meatballs, courtesy of SandSpring Ranch, a green salad, dinner roll, dessert and ice tea or water.  Second Saturday Suppers will continue next month, December 11th.  Chairman Ambrose would like to thank all of those who attended and a special thanks to everyone who volunteer their time to make this a successful event.

Assistance to Upshur County Senior Citizen’s Organization (UCSCO).

RPUC (Republican Party Upshur County) sponsors UCSCO Building Renovation. Under the leadership of Ken Ambrose, the newly elected Republican Chairman, a bond of support for the Senior Citizens Organization in Gilmer, Texas has been established.

The motto for the new RPUC is to bring harmony and teamwork among the party members and establish a well-balanced relationship with citizens of this community.

Reorganization of the party was the first step taken in the planning cycle.  The second among several programs being considered, is sponsoring a project that will lend assistance to this county’s Senior Citizen Organization in Gilmer.

This assistance will come in the form of maintenance and renovation of the UCSCO building located at 201 Silver Alley.  Committee meetings have been ongoing for several weeks with representatives of the UCSCO and RPUC.

John Clement, one of several new Vice Chairmen appointed by Chairman Ambrose has taken the lead in heading up the sponsorship committee and managing this project. The committee’s first priority was given to the plumbing maintenance requirements.  As of this date, the first of several plumbing problems have been corrected.

A contract for landscaping and lawn care has been established and will begin August 1, 2010.

Realizing a need for funding of the planned projects, plans are to solicit aid from State and Federal grants and community citizens and organizations.

Senior Citizens of this county have given the youthfulness of their lives adding to the successful living and peaceful enjoyment experienced by today’s generation.  It is certainly important that we pay honor and tribute to the valued members of our community that are in their Golden Age.
