March 30 for our monthly meeting at the Wesley House, Gilmer, Texas Our guest speaker will be Philip Hayes

Philip Hayes is the son of Ron and Janet Hayes of Lindale.

A senior at Lindale High School, Philip participates in the Key Club and Spanish Club, is a member of the National Honor Society, is active with the Speech and Debate Team, and plays French Horn in the Lindale High band.

He is also the founder of the Lindale High School Teen Republicans, and is president of the Teen Advisory Board for the Lindale Public Library.

In the summer of 2008, Philip competed in and won the national “Now Debate This” contest, earning the grand prize of a $150,000 scholarship. A competition of nearly 200 students from across the country, “Now Debate This” sought to answer the question of who was the greater President, Washington or Lincoln. Philip won the final round at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, successfully debating his case that Washington was the greater president.

After winning Now Debate This, Philip was invited to speak on behalf of the National Teenage Republicans at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

He is a member of First Baptist Church of Lindale, and is also an Eagle Scout.

to our website for the newly formed Republican Club Upshur County, Texas. Our club was recently founded in the belief that there are qualified folks here among us that can use our support and that as a group we can help them achieve the offices in local government that will benefit us all. At the same time we hope to provide our neighbors, friends and fellow Upshur County citizens with information essential to make assessments and decisions on local, regional and state wide issues.
